Best Places to Buy an Oculus Rift
People who buy Oculus Rift and its accessories today find a lower price than ever before. Today’s mandatory computer specs are also more forgiving. You’re not able to run the headset without a top-flight PC.
The Oculus Rift represents the gold standard of virtual reality headsets. It offers some of the best technology and is matched by an unbeatable entertainment library that sets it apart from most of its competitors.
For most of us, the Oculus was out of reach until recently. The high price combined with the PC requirements meant it was a several-thousand-dollar affair if your set up doesn’t include the ultimate gaming PC.
More importantly, you’re now able to buy the Oculus from more retailers than before. Previously, it was available from Oculus Rift alone. Buyers can now price compare and price match with multiple mainstream retailers to find the best price and the best bundles.
Not all deals are made equal. Basement bargain prices may signal a sale, but the retailer may also be in the process of clearing out old stock. Older versions of the Oculus may be cheaper, but keep in mind that the technology is dated. In other words, they won’t retain their market value, and you may struggle to meet the required technical requirements.
Plus, older versions risk incompatibility with new and forthcoming accessories.
So where should you buy your VR headset? We put together a list of our favorite stores.

How We Chose Our Favorite Stores to Buy Oculus Rift
Buy Oculus Rift or Oculus Rift accessories from any reputable store, and you’ll walk away with the same product, but you can’t guarantee the same value.
We chose our stores based on the average price of the Oculus Rift and the value of the bundles offered by the store in the case of the device itself. Although the recommended retail price remains the same everywhere, dynamic pricing means stores are willing to lower and promptly raise their prices to stay competitive.
We chose our favorite places to buy Oculus Rift according to:
Rather than buying from one of these stores specifically, we recommend monitoring availability regularly to snag the best deal.
We also included several stores where you can buy Oculus Rift accessories. We made our decision to include these stores based on product design and chose to focus on products that either hold patents or have a patent pending. From here, we also picked stores based on shipping availability, bundle options, and return policies.
All of our choices were vetted through both industry and consumer reviews to provide an overall experience not only of the product but of the buying experience itself.

Direct from Oculus

Want the latest deals and the biggest bundles? Go straight to the source and buy from Oculus Rift itself.
Oculus sells its products on its website and on Amazon, which is a significant benefit for Prime members or Amazon store cardholders.
When you buy directly from Oculus, you can be sure you’re getting the latest and greatest version of the product. We also find that the bundles tend to be more inclusive compared to other stores or websites.
For example, Oculus currently offers a bundle featuring the Oculus Rift and the Touch Virtual Reality System. It comes with six free titles (Robo Recall, Quill, Dead and Buried, medium, Lucky’s Tale, and Toybox) and the Touch controllers. You have everything you need to start playing.

Alienware produces a high-spec gaming PC that pairs exceptionally well with the Oculus. From inception, it was the best PC for the job, which meant the two companies formed a natural alliance.
If you’re looking for an excellent gaming bundle of the highest-quality, consider buying it from Alienware.
There are two primary bundles available. The Oculus Rift + Alienware Oculus Rift X51 R3 iB 16GB Desktop PC bundle that features both an Oculus Rift an Alienware Oculus-ready PC, and an Xbox One Wireless Controller.
The second bundle is the Oculus Rift + Alienware Oculus Ready Area 51 Gaming Desktop PC Bundle. It has the headset, controller, and an Alien Oculus Ready Area 51 Gaming Desktop PC.
When you buy from Alienware, there’s no concern about whether your new headset is compatible with your computer. You’ll know that you have a machine that not only runs Oculus but gives one of the best virtual reality experiences on the market.

TreeCloud9 designs innovative VR stand interfaces for both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Their stands hold the Touch Controllers for the Oculus securely and elegantly and are also easy to maneuver while wearing your Oculus Rift.
TreeCloud9’s products are currently in the patent-pending phase, and it’s hard to find another product that shifts from stationary work to gameplay as well as these. While the products offered are expensive given their primary function, the design is impeccable and attractive.
One of the things we like best is the free shipping. The price of the product means you’ll enjoy a minimum of free standard shipping, and Prime accounts receive free two-day shipping. While you might find a cheaper product, it won’t be robust, and you may end up paying in shipping costs what you’d otherwise receive in quality from TreeCloud9.

Every Oculus Rift needs a carrying case, and HermitShell’s cases are some of the best available. We like HermitShell because it carries both your Oculus headset and all the added accessories. The case isn’t a third-party product designed for multi-purpose use: the interior is designed specifically for the Oculus Rift VR headset.
In each case, you’ll fit:
The case itself also fits well with other bags to make it easy to carry on plans. However, the small size of the case and the build mean you need to be rather good at Tetris to fit everything listed above inside.
Because of the Jenga-like nature of the case, it’s worthwhile to pack a microfiber cloth inside the case to protect the headset as a precaution.
Shipping on HermitShell products is free within the United States.

StaSmart produces displays for Oculus Rift headsets and controllers that provide secure storage – and a stylish way to show off your tech to your friends.
We like StaSmart because it’s one of the few third-party accessories that come with a warranty. If your device breaks or malfunctions with the first 18 months of us, you may return it for a new one.
The product itself is also unique in that it holds both the Rift and the controllers in the same place. With a stable design and a low center of gravity, you can be sure that your products are safe. Because the stand is compatible with other VR products, we would otherwise be concerned with stability, but consumers say StaSmart mastered the laws of physics with the design.
Shipping on StaSmart products is also free.
Best Places to Buy Oculus Rift Buyer’s Guide
New to the idea of buying an Oculus Rift and not sure where to start? We answer the most commonly asked questions in our buyer’s guide.
How Much Does the Oculus Rift Cost?
The recommended retail price varies by country. In the U.S., the original price was $599, but you can now find it for $399.
It’s available in the UK for £399. Given the exchange rate, the U.S. price remains a better deal as you can expect to lose a significant amount of money during conversion. However, if a UK deal offers the Oculus Rift plus accessories or another bundle for £399, then it may be worth eating the cost of the exchange rate compared to spending $399 alone in the United States.
Remember that most retailers update Oculus prices every day to keep up with their competitors, so the likelihood of finding one for less than the RRP is high as long as you keep on top of prices.
Can I Use My Oculus Rift with My PC?
Compatibility remains an issue with the Oculus, but fortunately, there’s no need to fly blind.
Download the Oculus Rift compatibility tool to your computer to see whether your current system will run Oculus.
Requirements are no longer as stringent as they once were, but you’re unlikely to be able to run the device on an old or standard PC. In fact, you wouldn’t want to because the experience would suffer dramatically.
Do you know your computer’s current specs? Here’s what Oculus requires at a minimum:
What About My Xbox One, PS4, or Phone?
Don’t expect to use an Oculus Rift with your Xbox shortly. While Microsoft and Oculus continue to collaborate on other projects because of the PC connection, Xbox use isn’t yet on the table – yet. There’s potential in the future for a Microsoft/Oculus-compatible controller for the Xbox One.
In fact, Xbox users are out in the cold almost entirely. While Microsoft remains busy at work on its HoloLens VR project, it’s not a flagship Xbox product. However, the company’s decision to keep HoloLens separate may be an indication that a future partnership with Oculus Rift and Xbox is a possibility or even already in the works.
PlayStation owners have their own VR option with the PlayStation VR headset. Oculus users need not apply.
As for using Oculus Rift on your phone, don’t even think about it. Oculus requires serious processing power and sophisticated software. VR experiences for phones exist with Samsung Gear VR being the best known, but no gold standard VR hardware is anywhere near ready to pair with the likes of a mobile phone or device.
What Accessories Do I Need With My Oculus?
Buy Oculus Rift, and you’ll get a fantastic bit of tech. But every Oculus benefits from the accessories now available.
Oculus makes some of these accessories including the Oculus Touch and Oculus Sensor.
Don’t forget about practical accessories that protect your Oculus and make your whole gaming experience more manageable. Some accessories to consider include:
What Do I Need to Know About Buying from International Amazon Sites?
Saw a sweet deal on Amazon UK or another global Amazon site? Read this before you buy.
You’ll want to ensure you score a significant discount before buying in a currency stronger than your own. Why? Because your savings may get eaten by bank fees assessed to change currencies. There are ways around this, like opening a multi-currency account with a company like Transferwise.
Additionally, you’ll need to watch out for currency conversion rates and shipping costs. Moreover, your package may be flagged by customs when it arrives in your country, and the government will hold it hostage and until you pay the required customs and import taxes.
Buy an Oculus Rift from the UK or EU, and you’ll get one with a different voltage to the U.S. system. You’ll need an adaptor or converter to charge your new device. While EU/UK/US electronics like the Oculus Rift shouldn’t be a problem, you might struggle if you find yourself with an Asian charger.
These things affect battery life and quality, so while the short-term solution seems simple, it may damage your product in the long-run.
