The Alternative Realities of Our Time

Over the past few years, we’ve seen a tremendous rise in the number of virtual reality games available to users. Unfortunately, however, not all of these games are available in every virtual reality app store. Because of that, we decided to compile a list of the best VR games of all time, no matter what type of virtual reality device a gamer may use.

How we Chose Our Ratings

As you know, we love all things virtual reality. However, compiling a list of the best virtual reality games of all time was some of the most fun the members of our team have ever had. As you can imagine, this is because we had to test hundreds of games for hours on end with multiple devices. For tech junkies like us, there’s never been a more exciting project.

After having our team members test various games, we asked them to come up with a list of their favorites. From there, we combined these rankings to come up with a company-wide list of the best VR games of all time. But, we didn’t stop there. We also wanted to factor things such as who the app’s developer was and on which platform the game existed.

We also wanted to consider customer reviews. After coming up with our list, we read through hundreds of customer reviews for each one of the games we had selected. From there, we narrowed our list down to the options you’ll see below of the eight best VR games of all time. We’re confident that by choosing one of the options below, you’ll find a game that will keep you satisfied for hours on end.

However, we also value the opinions of our readers, which is why we encourage you to leave your comments below. If there’s a game you’ve played on your virtual reality device that you loved, but don’t see on our list, be sure to let us know. Together, our community of readers can work together to come up with a comprehensive list of the best VR games of all time.

No matter if you’re looking for virtual reality games to help get you started or are looking for a new game to add to the mix, we feel as though you can’t go wrong by choosing one of the options below. Additionally, please feel free to add your thoughts about our list in the comment section below.

Beat Saber

This game features a little bit of everything, which means it should prove to be a fun time for all. Users must dance around glowing sabers while maintaining the beat of a musical track. Not only must users keep up with the tune, but they must also cut specified color blocks with their sabers. We found that when playing this game, we managed to work up a bit of a sweat.

Perhaps one of the best parts about this game is the fact that it’s available on a multitude of devices. Those who own an Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or Windows Mixed Reality device will find that they’re able to download this game. Additionally, the developer has stated that they plan to release even more components of the game, so there should be fresh content to keep users satisfied.

The Talos Principle

When it comes to virtual reality puzzle games, this is one of the best options we’ve come across. Although there is a two-dimensional version of the game, developers took it to an entirely new level when introducing virtual reality components. The developers were able to recreate the game’s original experience while incorporating full VR support.

As users play the game, the puzzles that they must solve become much more complicated. When playing, users have the option to choose from room-scale, seated, or standing gameplay modes. We found that because of this, anyone could play this game, no matter their physical limitations. Additionally, this game is available on a variety of VR platforms, meaning a good number of users will have access to the game.

Sprint Vector

When it comes to racing games, Sprint Vector is one of the best options available to virtual reality users. Also, this is not a racing game that will have you merely turning a steering wheel. Instead, you’ll likely get quite the workout when playing this game. Users play the game from the first-person point of view as a racer strange world surrounded by aliens.

To increase your speed, you’ll have to swing your arms physically. After a while, you’re likely to find yourself worn out as a result! The game felt a bit like Mario-Kart but in a super-futuristic setting. The game features 21 courses, which is enough to provide enough fun for the entire family. The game is available on multiple platforms, including Steam and the PS4 platform.

Elite: Dangerous

The Elite game is more than three decades old, but the VR version is relatively new. The developers did an excellent job adapting the traditional game for VR gameplay. Users can still do everything they did in the first game, including exploring, trading, and engaging in combat. But, it’s significantly more realistic in the VR version.

Users will find themselves in a futuristic setting. Additionally, the game is better because it encourages multiplayer gameplay. Users can locate the game on the Steam platform. It’s one of the more expensive games on our list, costing approximately $30, but it’s a purchase that many users will likely find worth it. Users can also purchase variant packs on the Steam platform as well.

Job Simulator

This game is like Sims, but for virtual reality. Users will find themselves in the year 2050. Jobs that we are used to today, such as mechanics and chefs, no longer exist. Instead, people work as programmers and create artificial intelligence. In the game, then, users visit a museum to experience the old jobs. But, the robots of the current day do not quite remember exactly how the former positions worked.

Users have the choice of four jobs, including Auto Mechanic, Gourmet Chef, Office Worker, and Store Clerk. Each post has a sardonic twist. We found that this was an excellent choice for players of all age levels. It was simple enough that younger users could play without a problem. The game is available on the Steam platform and is compatible with HTC Vive, Oculus Fit, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

If you’re in search of a multiplayer “party game,” this could be the choice for you. That’s because it requires the full, undivided attention of 2 to 6 players. Some have called the game the “VR Mario Party.” In this game, one player will work to defuse a bomb while soliciting inputs from other players. The players read instructions from a 23-page user manual.

This game is exciting because it requires cooperation from all users, making it unique from other party games. Furthermore, the game is available on the Gear VR and Oculus Rift systems, meaning Samsung users can tap into the game quickly. However, if playing with the Oculus Rift system, you’ll need to have a controller. The game is also available on the Steam and PS4 platforms.

Skyrim

Skyrim is a game with which our readers may already be familiar. However, we believe that they haven’t fully experienced the game until they played it in virtual reality. Developers released the game on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR platforms. We believe that developers outdid themselves when they brought the game over to virtual reality.

Even though developers did not initially design the game for virtual reality, developers did an excellent job patching over issues. Some users may complain about the graphics of this game, but we found that it was easy to upgrade the graphics with a few modifications. Our team found themselves immersed in this game for hours.

Robo Recall

Although this game is only available to those using the Oculus platform on Gear VR devices, it was too good to leave off our list of the best VR games of all time. That’s because our team found that this was one of the most polished, well-rounded experiences they had ever come across in a virtual reality game. In this game, futuristic robots become infected with a bug that you must remove.

This game is a first-person shooter with a comical twist. Users are forced to stave off swarms of attacking robots. They can do so not only with a full arsenal of weapons but with the ability to slow time as well. We found that even though this game was a first-person shooter, it did not cause motion sickness in those who had sensitivity issues.
